I have been fascinated with the concept of doubling both in the image and the human condition. How does layering affect the feeling of an image? In this project, I wanted to visually represent schizophrenia and bipolar disorder which is prevalent on my mom’s side of the family. It is something that we do not discuss much. Most of us handle/hide it pretty well or some of us are in denial that we maybe have it. I’ve developed my own coping mechanisms such as self-isolation and hiding within myself which scares me.

The extended exposure portraits are supposed to reflect this anxiety that I face as the diagnoses are usually around the early 20s. Along with the portraits I also have some solo liminal space shots with blurry figures in them. It represents a state of being lost and unbound.
